"Let Us Prey"

“Let Us Prey”

Can a bureaucracy become such a beast?

Freedom feeds variety and variety feeds progress. If you allow freedom to be circumscribed, you die as a people; your children choke on the ashes of your lost resolve.
Should we back off in our struggle for individual freedom? If out cause is the right one, shouldn’t it be natural for it to evolve on its own merits? Why shouldn’t we leave it to the natural process? The reason, people, is this: How you think and act “is the process!” How you think is the mill that grinds out the future. And if you don’t act, you and your ideas will be quietly crushed by those who do.
On too many occasions in the history of civilization, people have accepted authority without subjecting that authority to rational examination! A complacent population leaves itself wide open to control. Eventually the abusive bureaucracy demands too much. The end is either revolt or subjugation. Perhaps the problem is not with the power of the abuser; perhaps the problem is with the individual who is willing to submit. Free men and women need not apologize for being enraged by arrogance in government.
Look at your soul. Corner apathy. Root it out. The darkest hours of human history are marked by muted minutes of indifference. The choice is coming. We either build something better, build it on the stone of constitution, honesty, and self-reliance that stands strong under federal weed and legal trash. Or, through public inertia, let cynicism boil until the people trust no one, trust no one from the president on down to the county judge. Maybe until people don’t even trust one another. That is when unity dies, the might of a people is done.
I think I know what real courage is. Real courage is to leave that nice chair and walk into the flame of history. Real courage is to fight when there are so many places to hide, so many excuses. The halls of forever are long. Somewhere, far from this time, you may have to look into the eyes of patriots. Somewhere, far from this time, you may have to look into the eyes of the young soldier who never got to hold the tiny hand of his firstborn; who took the hit for you because he knew that somewhere, somehow, in all the confusion of his youth freedom mattered!!!
